WHAT IS THE INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM?
The IB Program is a challenging four to two-year curriculum for grades nine through twelve. It leads to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities. Students learn more than a collection of facts. The Diploma Program prepares students for university and encourages them to: ask challenging questions learn how to learn develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture develop an ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures.

All students regardless of gender, race, culture, or family income are eligible to apply.

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE CANDIDATE SCHOOL
Salt Lake City School District will offer two IB program options at Highland High School for students who have a high interest in challenging global curriculum.

HIGHLAND HIGH PRE-IB
The Highland High Preparatory International Baccalaureate Program will provide 9th and 10th grade students challenging curriculum in preparation for the rigors of the IB Diploma Program. Highland High Pre-IB students are involved in advanced coursework in mathematics, reading, art, science, social

IB DIPLOMA PROGRAM:
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program is a challenging two-year curriculum for students in 11th and 12th grade. It leads to a qualification that is widely recognized by the world’s leading universities.
The curriculum contains six subject groups together with a core made up of three separate parts.

Students study six subjects selected from the subject groups. Normally three subjects are studied at higher level (courses representing 240 teaching hours), and the remaining three subjects are studied at standard level (courses representing 150 teaching hours).

All three parts of the core—extended essay, theory of knowledge and creativity, action, service—are compulsory and are central to the philosophy of the Diploma Program.
