Bio

houston-katieSomething Unique: I love to write and someday dream of writing a book.

Attended: Brigham Young University and the University of Utah

I love the diversity at Highland High School and getting to know students who have such unique backgrounds, challenges, talents, and interests.  Every student has something amazing to offer each class.

I was born in Salt Lake City and raised in southern California. I came back to Utah to study at BYU after I graduated high school. I majored in Music Education with an emphasis in secondary choral education and I minored in English Education.  I took a hiatus from school to serve an 18 month mission for my church in southern Brazil and graduated from college just over a year after I got home.  I taught at Dixon Middle School in Provo for three years before coming to Highland High School where I am entering my sixth year.  I finished my Master's in Music Education at the University of Utah in 2015.  I also assistant conduct and sing in the Salt Lake Symphonic Choir.  Because of my love for musical theater, I began music directing shows in the community. I recently finished The Music Man and Seussical with the Draper Arts Council. Here at Highland High, I've taught piano, choir, and English. As I approach my ten year mark for teaching in 2018, I still feel like I'm living one of my greatest dreams.
