Highland High School will host Commencement Exercises at the University of Utah’s Jon M. Huntsman Center located at 1825 S Campus Dr in Salt Lake City on Friday, May 30, 2025, at 4:00pm. There will be open seating; no ticket needed for admission and no limit to the number of guests. Additional details will be posted as we get closer to the event date via email and on this webpage.

Grads:

  • Using Parking Maps listed under 'Graduation Venue' below to find free parking
  • Arrive between 3:15-3:30pm at the West Tunnel.
  • Pick up your name card at the top of the tunnel. Keep the name card until you hand it to the reader during diploma distribution. 
  • Teachers will line you up like at rehearsal, make sure to keep pace with the person beside you and follow the cues you're given.
  • Make sure to zip up your gown and have your tassel on the right side of your cap. 
  • The front of the line will consist of those speaking, performing, or valedictorians. 
  • No gum, food or drink on the graduation floor. 

Guests:

  • Congrats to your grad, they worked hard to be here today!

  • No bags at the event except medical or diaper bags
  • No confetti (the school is fined $250 per confetti cannon)
  • No balloons, helium or not. There will be a storage space for balloons and strollers on the top level of the arena, see arena map under venue title below.
  • Leis are allowed, although no candy leis are allowed on the floor (during graduation)
  • No outside food or drink. 1 reusable (no glass) water bottle is allowed.

    This award celebrates a Highland student (senior) who exemplifies or inspires the positive values and behaviors that define 'The Highland Way'. Recipients of this award are characterized by making a difference; going above and beyond in support of Highland's mission.

    YOU KEEP THE CAP, TASSEL AND ANY OTHER PRODUCTS ORDERED FROM JOSTENS. GRADUATION GOWNS MUST BE RETURNED.

    Please remember, our school has a custom-made cap and gown for our graduation commencement, and it takes time to make these items for you. We need you to get this ordered and complete. 

    Orders for your Highland High School Cap & Gown, Graduation Announcements, Graduation Ring, Letter Jacket and any other graduation related items may be placed online at the links below.  Please make sure you order on time to ensure your gown is made correctly based on your height and weight measurements.  

    Orders need to be placed online by _____TBA______. If you have any questions, please contact our graduation provider, Jostens at the number below. They need your order placed as soon as possible.

    Jostens will ship the graduation items you order directly to your home. The cap and gown will ship to our school and will be handed out this spring, which will be communicated to you via email at a later date.

    • No confetti whatsoever is allowed in or around the arena and its grounds
      SLCSD's High School graduations had family members and friends release confetti bombs on the outside lawn of the Huntsman Center causing an $8,000 cleanup fee to Highland High School, please help us by not bringing confetti.

  • Seniors and Senior Parents! Sign up for Last Blast - a decades old tradition at Highland where ALL our seniors party together on graduation night. Pay $30 on MySchoolFees, or if you are on fee waivers, sign up with West in the Treasurer's office. Transportation, Go-Karts, Laser Tag, pizza, drinks and fun are all included. Be at Highland at 9 pm to ride the bus to Boondocks, and buses will return to Highland around 1:30 am. Signup now!

  • Graduation Photos can be ordered online through Island Photography. They will email you a pin to use. Contact information can be found on their webpage: 

     
  • We start looking for an individual (or duo) to perform an inspirational musical piece at graduation. To try out, please email a recording of you performing the piece to hhs@slcschools.org by April 1st. Make sure to include your name and information about the piece. 

     
  • Valedictorian candidates are reviewed the beginning of 4th term and those that qualify receive a medallion at awards night or graduation. 

    Interested in giving the Valedictorian Address at graduation? Only Valedictorian candidates may try out. Email a draft of a 2-minute speech to hhs@slcschools.org with your name and valedictorian status by April 11th. 

    • Students must maintain a 4.0 cumulative GPA over the course of four full schedule academic years.
    • Only grades earned within their specific academic year are eligible for consideration.
    • A rigorous schedule is expected - especially during the senior year. Teacher’s Aide and Home Release greater than 1.0 credit (equal to one year-long class) will disqualify the student from consideration.
