Highland High School opened in 1956 and has since existed to ensure that all students learn essential skills to become successful adults. Highland exceeds rigorous standards of educational quality and effectiveness; fully accredited by Cognia and the State of Utah. As a public college preparatory school we value a comprehensive education, offering a wide range of academic, vocational, technical, family science, and fine arts courses. Highland has multiple National Board Certified Teachers, Advanced Placement (AP) course offerings (1000+ tests given), an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program (with diverse course offerings), a Freshman Success Program that serves almost 500 ninth-grade students, Youth Advocates for each grade, an award winning Fine Arts program, and Concurrent Enrollment courses offered through the Salt Lake Community College (for college course credits), in addition to access to many other courses offered through the district’s Career and Technical Center.
Our competitive programs include Instrumental, Choir, Debate, Cheer, Theatre, Baseball, Basketball: Boys & Girls, Cross Country: Boys & Girls, Football, Golf: Boys & Girls, Soccer: Boys & Girls, Softball, Swimming: Boys & Girls, Tennis: Boys & Girls, Track & Field, Volleyball: Boys & Girls, Lacrosse: Boys & Girls, and Wrestling: Boys & Girls.
