9th Grade- College and Career Readiness Newsletter
- How to be Successful in High School: Counselors visit 9th grade Language Arts classes to introduce students to Highland, outline school expectations, and share tips for a successful transition.
- CCR Meetings: Counselors will meet individually with each freshman in November and December to introduce students to high school expectations, graduation requirements, and early career exploration. Students and counselors will go over a 4-year plan. Parents and guardians will be invited to the meeting.
- Course Selection: In February Counselors will meet with 9th grade students in their Language Arts classes to review graduation requirements, explore CTE pathways, and discuss college and career planning as it relates to selecting their 10th grade courses for the upcoming school year.
- Career Day: Students will have the opportunity to attend three sessions, each featuring a different speaker representing a unique career field. During these sessions, students will learn about the speakers career, the skills and education needed for success, and which high school courses can help prepare them for the specific career.

11th Grade- College and Career Readiness Newsletter
- Course Selection: In February Counselors will meet with 11th grade students in their Language Arts classes to review graduation requirements and discuss college and career planning as it relates to their 12th grade courses for the upcoming school year.
- CCR Meetings: Counselors meet individually with each junior in the Spring to review graduation progress and support college and career readiness planning. Parents and guardians are invited to attend. These meetings include exploration of in-state and out-of-state college options, including WUE, align career goals with appropriate majors, degrees, or certificates, review high school credits and graduation status, plan for credit recovery if needed, build their senior year schedule, consider concurrent enrollment opportunities, and learn about internship opportunities.
- Utah Higher Ed Day: This annual event is a collaboration between Utah higher educational institutions and Highland High School. Admissions officers host informational sessions for Juniors about their post-secondary options. Students can expect to learn about application deadlines, majors and programs, scholarships, and more while attending presentations from three institutions of their choice.
- Career Day: Students will have the opportunity to attend three sessions, each featuring a different speaker representing a unique career field. During these sessions, students will learn about the speakers career, the skills and education needed for success, and which high school courses can help prepare them for the specific career.
- Parent Night: In April, counselors host an evening for parents, families, and students focused on postsecondary planning. The presentation explains the “1, 2, 4, or More” college options and outlines how students can prepare for their postsecondary plans, including applications, financial aid, scholarships, and paying for school.

12th Grade- College and Career Readiness Newsletter
- CCR Meeting: Counselors meet with seniors at the start of the year to review graduation plans, discuss college applications, and connect career exploration with postsecondary planning. They continue meeting with seniors throughout the year to support goal-setting and ensure students stay on track for graduation.

UCAW (Utah College Application Week): Counselors will visit senior Language Arts classes to provide dedicated time and support for students to complete college applications. Students will also have opportunities to connect with representatives from local colleges and learn more about the application process, admissions requirements, and next steps in planning for postsecondary education. - Parent Night: In October, counselors host an evening for parents, families, and students focused on postsecondary planning. The presentation explains the “1, 2, 4, or More” college options and outlines how students can prepare for their postsecondary plans, including applications, financial aid, scholarships, and paying for school.
- FAFSA Night: Counselors host a FAFSA Open House where families can stop by for personalized support with their FAFSA applications. Staff guide students and parents through the process, answer questions, and provide tips to maximize financial aid opportunities.
